Extension Activities

The Red Boat, and Wally Does Not Want a Haircut

Reading is even more fun and meaningful when books come alive. Here’s a few extension activities for each book this month to get you started.

These activities were curated for you by Graceann of Creating a Heavenly Haven. She has an undergrad in Early Childhood Education, a Masters in Education, and is currently homeschooling her three adorable kiddos.

The Red Boat

This sweet book about the power of imagination subtly reminds children of their power to overcome fears. The spunky illustrations (and trusty dog who always contributes a meaningful “Woof!”) provide a bit of levity that keeps the story moving right along!

You’ll want to read the activity post for full details, but here’s a quick preview of just some of the activities you can do to enjoy The Red Boat even more.

  • do a craft showing the power of change
  • create an imagination portrait of yourself
  • make a new friend (we've got some tips!)

Wally Does Not Want a Haircut

A little lamb in desperate need of a haircut is the star of this hilarious story full of animal puns, onomatopoeia, alliteration and terrific vocabulary that blend seamlessly together. With great messages about facing your fears and the power of a hug from mom, this is a fantastic read-aloud.
