Readers of all ages will enjoy the timeless wonder of autumn leaves in this amazing new pop-up book from paper engineer Yoojin Kim―her first―teamed with award-winning author Janet Lawler and artist Lindsay Dale-Scott. This book, which can be considered a seasonal companion with Jumping Jack Press’ all-time best seller and award winning, Snowflakes, includes amazing pop-ups, educational information, and delightful interactive elements that offer change and surprise on every page in this lyrical look at Autumn.
I love writing fiction and nonfiction for children, including prose and poetry. Three of my 20+ books have appeared in the Scholastic Book Clubs, and two have been featured selections of the Children’s Book of the Month Club. Several have been translated into other languages. My recent picture books include Rain Forest Colors and Ocean Counting (named an Outstanding Science Trade Book for 2014 by the National Science Teachers’ Association), Love Is Real, Fright School, and Mirabel’s Missing Valentines. I also write and collaborate on holiday and seasonal pop-up books, including LEAVES and SHELLS. I love finding humor in everyday life, and I’m fascinated by the natural world. Visitors to my backyard include rabbits, hawks, bears, foxes, chipmunks, squirrels, turkeys, deer, and many birds.
Lindsay has made her mark on the illustration industry after encouragement from both parents to pursue a creative career. Whilst studying Graphic Design and Illustration at Columbus College of Art and Design, she earned an award for her advertising campaign for the sloth sanctuary (she loves sloths!) of Costa Rica. She gained local, regional and national recognition with the American Advertising Awards, ‘The Addy’s’. She describes her work as whimsical with a soft sophisticated touch, drawing inspiration from classic Disney artist Mary Blair. Vintage posters, folk and fairy tales and things that are a bit quirky also inspire her. She currently resides in Northeast Ohio with her husband, two dogs Toby & Violet, two bunnies Sam & Pepper and our newest addition - our daughter Nora James.
