What's After Gandhi About

Publisher Summary

“Reissued for today’s turbulent times, this updated paperback edition lays out the how, why, and when of nonviolent resistance throughout history. Newly updated for 2018 to include modern nonviolent movements such as Black Lives Matter and NoDAPL. In 1908 Mohandas Gandhi and a crowd of 3,000 protested without guns or rioting against unjust laws. They made a difference peacefully. Gandhi has influenced countless others to work toward freedom and justice through peaceful methods. Mother-and-son team Anne Sibley O’Brien and Perry Edmond O’Brien highlight people and events inspired by Gandhi. From Rosa Parks to the students at Tiananmen Square to Wangari Maathai, people have made the world sit up and take notice. Provocative graphics and beautiful portraits accompany the stories and inspire a sense of civic responsibility”—

Who Wrote After Gandhi

author & illustrator
Anne Sibley O'Brien

When I was seven years old, my parents moved our family to South Korea where they worked as medical missionaries, and which was our home base for the next twenty-one years. This experience of being raised bicultural and bilingual inspired and formed my world view — of global connections among diverse people — and my life’s work as a writer and illustrator of children’s books. People’s differences are glorious and fascinating, and our commonalities bind us together as one family.

For the last 38 years, I’ve lived and worked on an island in Maine, where my husband and I raised our two children, and which we now love to explore with our 4-year-old grandson. I’ve published 37 books — some I illustrated, some I wrote, and some I wrote and illustrated.
