Part of the I Need My Monster series
A boy discovers that monsters are real and are living under his bed, but they are not as scary as he thought.
Ethan finds a mysterious note under his bed, leading to a parade of quirky monsters vying for the role of his bedtime guardian. Each creature has its own unique charm, but only Gabe, the little green monster, has the perfect mix of snorts and growls to keep Ethan in bed. As the competition unfolds, Ethan must decide which monster will help him drift into dreamland. Will Gabe's spooky skills be enough to win the job? Discover the delightful blend of giggles and shivers in this enchanting tale of bedtime monsters.
One night, when Ethan reaches under his bed for a toy truck, he finds this note instead: “Monsters! Meet here for final test.” Ethan is sure his parents are trying to trick him into staying under the covers, until he sees five colorful sets of eyes blinking at him from beneath the bed. Soon, a colorful parade of quirky, squeaky little monsters compete to become Ethan’s monster. But only the little green monster, Gabe, has the perfect blend of stomach-rumbling and snorting needed to get Ethan into bed and keep him there so he falls asleep—which as everyone knows, is the real reason for monsters under beds. With its perfect balance of giggles and shivers, this silly-spooky prequel to the award-winning I Need My Monster and Hey, That’s MY Monster! will keep young readers entertained.

“I love the illustrations in this book! Though the monsters are slightly amusing, the basis of the story is about a teacher monster and his students being tested for who will make the best monster for Gabe—the goal being to get him in bed and keep him there until he's fast asleep. If you have little ones scared of monsters at night (or that would become so if they read a book about them), I'd steer away from this title, but it's otherwise fun for older kids who know it's all fun and games.”
