Night of Cake & Puppets is an optional illustrated companion about Zuzana and Mik's first date. It takes place during the opening novel and works well after book #1, but it is not book #2.

What Parents Should Know

The trilogy includes war, massacres, torture, executions, slavery, resurrection using teeth and bodies, frightening creatures, serious injuries, grief, and important deaths. Violence and despair intensify substantially in the second book.

The central romance includes kissing, sexual references, and some implied sexual content. There are also threats of sexual violence and abusive power dynamics, making this better suited to teens prepared for a dark wartime fantasy than younger readers drawn to the Prague setting.
