The story is pretty bare bones, and the crayon illustrations are simple, so the whole book has the unlikely feel of a minimalist adventure. When I read it to my kids, I find myself hunting for metaphors and trying to unearth some essential truth from the book. And maybe it's there, maybe not--my kids just love the story.”
