I love the mid-century look and feel of this classic book, and the way that it makes life in New York City seem colorful and exciting. It's especially fun to look at with my kids when we talk about relatives or friends who live in New York, and will be great for preparing to visit the city. However, right now, it's just too long for my pre-schooler, so we mostly stick to looking at and summarizing the pictures.
M. Sasek was born in 1916 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. An author and illustrator, he is best remembered for his classic stories on the great cities of the world. He died in 1980.
