Joanna and the kids chronicle the adventures of starting their own family garden. From failed endeavors, obstacles (bunnies that eat everything!), and lessons learned, the Gaines family shares how they grew a happy, successful garden. As it turns out, trying something new isn’t always easy, but the hardest work often yields the greatest reward.
This is definitely a must-read for all Joanna Gaines fans! It's beautifully illustrated, told from the perspective of the Gaines children and is all about hard work, not giving up when the going gets tough... and of course gardening. All that being said, if I didn't know that Joanna Gaines wrote it, and was examining it purely from an unbiased standpoint, it's quite long and is all about gardening, so not really a page-turner or one I'd want to read again and again and again.
I'm a huge fan of gardening as a tool for teaching kids about the world and about hard work and perseverance, so I wanted to love this book. I did love the illustrations--they're sweet and beautiful. However, it was just so wordy. It was way too wordy for my pre-schooler or toddler to enjoy, but I honestly don't think that they would have been much more engaged in the story if they were older.
