Bonnie Pang

Hello! I'm Bonnie from the tiny city of Hong Kong. I illustrate children's books and make comics. When I'm not drawing, I love to cook simple meals, bake bread and pastries, and play with my family dog Milky the Pomeranian.

I love animals - to draw them and to help them by living a greener lifestyle!

What does a typical work day look like for you?

I wake up, have breakfast and start working (in my room, no transportation!). I usually go out for lunch with my mum, then drive my dog to the park in the afternoon. I often bring my iPad with me so I can work on the go. I do some exercise in the evening, have dinner, and either relax or continue working into the night.

What do you do when you're in need of some inspiration?

I read books and look at other people's art. I also have a inventory of ideas in the past, it's a great place to go to when I run out of ideas.

How did you come to the realization that you wanted to write/illustrate children's books professionally?

My mum used to give me a lot beautifully illustrated children's books when I was young, but I did not consider becoming a children's book illustrator until I graduate from art school. I focused on making concept art in art school (character design, background illustration etc for animation movies), but destiny took me to a children's book artist agency, and I started drawing for books instead of animation!

What is a goal you'd like to accomplish, either within the field of children's literature, or outside it?

I'd like to write my own books! I enjoy making stories and I have things to say, such as positive messages and how to help protect the earth. I'd also like to make some very personal comics and publish a graphic novel.

If you weren't a children's book author/illustrator, what would you do?

90% I would be drawing something else! Like animation, comics, painting, graphic design... IF I'm not drawing, I guess I would be working in a environmental organization, anything related to nature!
