Meet Barkus. Barkus is loyal. Barkus is generous. Barkus is family. The exuberant Barkus and his lucky young owner whirl and twirl across the pages of this delightful pre-chapter book series from award-winning author Patricia MacLachlan. The accessible text is ideal for even the newest independent reader, while the warm, humorous story and energetic illustrations will appeal to picture book readers as well as advanced readers.
Barkus is a cute story for a little reader. It has lots of repeated words for someone that is learning to read. It is pretty long though and they may have to read it in sections. Especially cute for those that love dogs.
This is a great book for a new reader who is excited about being able to read on their own! It's full of great sight words and split into short chapter-like stories, which help to make it feel extra grown-up and impressive. Whether you have an independent reader or a read-aloud listener, the illustrations enhance the whole experience--they are fun, bold, and have a touch of a retro flair.
