A delightful holiday offering no matter what you celebrate in December! I am a mix of two traditions. From Daddy Christmas and Hanukkah Mama. How lucky am I? Holiday time at Sadie’s house means golden gelt sparkling under the Christmas tree, candy canes hanging on eight menorah branches, voices uniting to sing carols about Macabees and the manger, and latkes on the mantel awaiting Santa’s arrival. Selina Alko’s joyous celebration of blended families will make the perfect holiday gift for the many Americans who celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah.
This little girl gets to celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah and talks about how they intertwine traditions from both holidays. There's not a huge storyline to this book, but I liked the diversity in celebrating both holidays. There's a calendar at the end of the story showing when a bunch of other holidays are, which is fun, and there's also a recipe at the back of the book!
This book shows how both Hanukkah and Christmas can co-exist in one home over the holiday season, their traditions intermixing and adding to each other! I enjoyed that this showed some traditional elements from both cultures in a passing rather than fully educational way.
Selina Alko grew up in Canada and has been a painter since she was a child. She loves mixing materials together to create artwork for her award-winning children’s books. Besides working in her studio, Selina likes to travel, be involved in her community, and spend time with her children. Selina makes her home in Brooklyn, NY, with her family and their two parakeets, Sunny and Snowy.
