Nothing ever happens to me. Never, ever. Ever, never. Nothing. Or does it? Jo Empson’s debut picture book Rabbityness was published to universal acclaim in Spring 2012. Never Ever displays her inimitable sense of fun, her love of storytelling and surprise, and her delight in the magical world of the imagination.
I love books that make use the combination of words and illustrations to create dramatic irony. My toddler has no idea what dramatic irony is, but she knows she finds it wonderfully silly. The illustrations in this book are cheerful and bright, and the simple premise will appeal to young readers. Parents and kids will have the opportunity to discuss what's happening on each page as they look at all the things the girl would be seeing if she were looking around.
Jo is a UK-based author and illustrator, and graduated from Cambridge School of Art with a Master’s in Children’s Book Illustration. Her first book, Rabbityness, was nomiated for 8 awards including UKLA Book Awards 2013 and Kate Greenaway Medal 2013, and her second book,Never Ever has been awarded a Kirkus Star and was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
