The series uses dragons, ghosts, witches, monsters, and threatened danger for comedy. Characters may be chased, captured, frightened, or threatened with becoming a dragon's dinner, but the action is cartoonish rather than graphic.
Expect gross-out jokes, slapstick, greedy or incompetent adults, and schoolyard teasing. Short chapters, frequent illustrations, and a reluctant hero make these approachable for children moving into independent chapter-book reading.
