The story is thin and the message is on-the-nose; it's just not a very well-developed book. There are good morals--be kind, share your pasta, make new friends--but they're not presented in a very nuanced, clever, or fun way. It also presented the first day of school as something to dread or be afraid of, and I just don't think that's necessary or helpful for little ones who learn so much about expectations from the modeling of characters in books.
New York Times bestseller Dorothea Benton Frank was born and raised on Sullivans Island, South Carolina. Until her passing in 2019, Dorothea and her husband split their time between New Jersey and Sullivans Island, South Carolina. A contemporary voice of the South, Dorothea Benton Frank was beloved by fans and friends alike since her debut novel Sullivans Island. Readers from coast to coast fell for the quick wit and the signature humor that permeated her many bestselling novels.
