The Best Children’s Books About Stars

By the Bookroo Editors
Updated July 28, 2026

Stars are usefully impossible objects for children: tiny enough to wish on, large enough to manufacture the ingredients in their bodies, and far enough away that tonight’s pinprick of light may have begun traveling before anyone they know was born. In stories they tumble into jars and wait to be rescued. In science they burn, change color, explode, and give us a way to measure the universe. Either version rewards looking up.

Drawing from Bookroo’s collection of 173 books about stars, our editors chose twelve that make room for bedtime wonder, folktale, practical stargazing, stellar science, and the people who taught us how to read the sky. Start with the shortlist, then browse sturdy first books, picture books for curious sky-watchers, and deeper guides and novels for independent readers.
