Korky Paul

KORKY PAUL was born Zimbabwe. He studied Fine Arts at Durban Art School and Film Animation at CalArts, California. He began his career in advertising before becoming an award-winning illustrator of children’s books.

He has illustrated the "Winnie The Witch" series for Oxford University Press, which won the Children's Book Award. Now published in over 30 languages and sales of 6 million world wide. Soon to be a TV series called Winnie and Wilbur on Channel 5 ‘Milkshake’.

Winner too, of Supporter of the Year for Summertown Stars Football Club.

Korky has illustrated several other successful books for Frances Lincoln, Oxford, Penguin, Random House including anthologies of poems edited by John Foster and Michael Rosen.

Known only to himself as the 'World's Greatest Portrait Artist – and Dinosaur Drawer', Korky visits schools and festivals promoting his passion for drawing. He is a patron of The Art Room, Pegasus Theatre, ARCh, Reading Quest and The Stratford Literary Festival.

He now works in Oxford, but every summer he lives it up in Greece with his family.

About Korky Paul

KORKY PAUL was born in Harare Zimbabwe in 1951 into a family of seven children.
He enjoyed a wild and privileged childhood in the African bush veldt.

He studied Fine Arts at Durban Art School and Film Animation at CalArts.
He began his career in advertising in Cape Town before becoming an
award-winning illustrator of children’s books.

He met Ron Heapy at Oxford University Press who commissioned
The multi-million selling series of 'Winnie and Wilbur
and it won the Children's Book Award in Britain,
an award where ll the judges are children.
Soon to be a TV series called Winnie and Wilbur on Channel 5 ‘Milkshake’.

Korky has illustrated many other successful books for Oxford, Penguin and
Random House including several anthologies of poems edited by John Foster
and Michael Rosen.

Winner of Supporter of the Year for Summertown Stars Football Club.

He has sold more than 6 million books world wide in over 30 languages.

Other awards include European Multi Media Award for the CD-Rom
based on ‘The Fish Who Could Wish’, The Prix Octogenes,
The Sheffield Book Award, The Critici in Erba Prize Bologna,
Crayon de porcelaine at the St Just Salon international de la Humour
and short listed three times for The Kate Greenaway Award.

Known only to himself as the 'World's Greatest Portrait Artist',
Korky regularly holds drawing workshops at libraries, schools and
museums to promote and encourage his passion for drawing.
He is a patron of The Art Room, Pegasus Theatre,
ARCh, Reading Quest and The Stratford Literary Festival.

Korky has two children Zoë a sculptor, and Oska an anthropologist.

He now lives in Oxford, with his wife the artist Susan Moxely
but every summer they live it up in Greece.
