The literature world is full of memorable, fun, magical, and spooky stories about witches. From Shakespeare's famous witches attending to their boiling concoction with a "double, double toil and trouble," to memorable cult classic witches from the 1970s and from the 1980s, there are stories for all readers. The world of children's literature has its own share of beloved witch characters. In this list, we've gathered the best kids books about witches. On this list there are some well known witches, like Hermione, Winnie the Witch, and Miss Viola Swamp. There are also stories of less known witch characters you'll be delighted (and maybe startled!) to meet, like a little girl witch from a Brave Little Witch. And even though it's a list about witches, there are stories of witches and wizards, cats, broomsticks, bats, spiders, warts . . . the fun things all readers love (or fear!) about witches. The list includes three types of books—board, picture, and chapter—to appeal to a range of kids. Board books are great for reading aloud to young readers. Picture books are best for toddlers and elementary age kids, whether for reading aloud together or for young readers learning to read on their own. Board and picture book stories are generally meant to entertain and will not include content that could be scary, though parents and other loved ones should still be judicious, especially with a sensitive reader. Chapter books on the list are best for elementary and tween readers around early middle school age. Enjoy the list, and let us know what titles you would add!
