Children's literature has a long history of stories about animals or with animal characters. Whether you look back to ancient tales like Aesop's Fables, to modern classics, or to current bestsellers, you'll find stories of animals. In this list we've collected the best kids books about animals or with animal characters. The books on the list cover a variety of topics. Because so many books are about animals or include animal characters, we've included a table of content feature you can use to jump to specific topics. For example, there are animal books about friendship, animal books about adventure, rhyming animal books, and bedtime animal stories. There are also fact filled, nonfiction animal books with information about animals and their habitats, their environments, and endangered animals. We include three types of books on the list: board books, picture books, and chapter books. Board books contain many great animal stories and animal characters and are best for babies and toddlers. Picture books are fun to read aloud with preschool age toddlers and for young, elementary school age readers. Chapter books are great for young elementary and middle school age readers learning to read on their own. You can see the whole list or filter it by book type. We hope this is a helpful resource for parents, kids, and teachers. Let us know what you would add to the list!
