What Does Bookroo Think of This Book

Bedtime stories above all others, showing girls they can change the world.

This book is a compilation of succinct, inspiring biographies of 100 women who changed the world through their dreaming, courage, and determination. As you open to any page, you’ll find a riveting biography, a gorgeous portrait, and a moving quote from a real woman a girl can look up to. The portraits are done by different illustrators, creating a vibrant variety of beautiful styles. At the end of the spotlights, there’s a blank page for the reader to write her own bio and draw her own portrait, adding her motivations with those of the women included in this book to make the world a better place. While this book has a feminist view of women, it’s not overly preachy. The word “rebel” in the title might be offputting, due to its negative connotation, but the use is fitting as these women rose when faced with opposition to overcome obstacles and pioneer a better way for women after them. There’s a great amount of diversity in nationality, ethnicity, and profession of the women included in this hall of fame, though there is a larger percentage of women from the United States than from other countries. Readers will recognize a few women included and be introduced to a good number of women they haven’t had the pleasure to learn about before. The multitude of careers these women have had range from boxers to mathematicians, writers, rappers, and more.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! It is a bit more expensive than others, but in my opinion, it's completely worth it to have in my library. I think everyone should read this book and learn about the amazing women who have stood up for their rights and changed the world! With each women highlighted, there's a stunning illustration of the woman along with a short story about her, who she is/was, and what she accomplished. This book is so inspiring and I learned about so many women I hadn't heard of before that have been so influential. I seriously cannot say enough good things about this book, it is one of my absolute favorites.
