I had the hardest time giving this book a number rating! I love that each poem is illustrated by a different fantastic illustration—it's so fun to see each of the different styles as you flip through and how their illustrations impact the tone of the poems. I personally find that unpublished works of great authors from the past often aren't their best work, so the fact that this is from a cache of unpublished Margaret Wise Brown poems makes me a little skeptical and it's definitely not something you can sit down and read cover to cover with most kids. I'd suggest treating it as something where you read a poem or two in a quiet moment and then put it away for another time.
Margaret Wise Brown is one of the most popular children’s authors of all time; her classic Goodnight Moon (HarperFestival), illustrated by Clement Hurd, has sold more than 24 million copies, and her books—including Big Red Barn (Harper Festival), The Runaway Bunny (HarperCollins), and The Golden Egg Book (Simon & Schuster)—have been in print for over 50 years. Several generations have grown up with her timeless stories and her influence has been felt around the world. (Bio via Sterling Fall 2018 Catalog.)
