Bookroo's summary

Gideon lives a comfortable life but yearns for heroism. Determined to see his name in headlines, he embarks on a quest to discover what it truly means to be a hero. Must heroes be strong, brave, and clever, or is there more to it? As Gideon navigates his journey, readers are invited to ponder the true essence of heroism. With humor and wit, this tale challenges our perceptions of idols and heroics, leaving us to decide what makes someone truly heroic.

From the publisher

Once upon a time, there was a nice boy and his name was Gideon. He lived in a nice house, and he had nice parents and lots of toys. But Gideon wasn’t satisfied. He wanted to be a hero. You know, a hero, with his name on the front page of the newspaper. That sort of thing. So how does anyone get to be a hero, anyway? Heroes have to be strong. Heroes have to be brave. Heroes have to be clever. Don’t they? With wry humor, Florence Parry Heide and Chuck Groenink explore how we choose our idols in a witty story that leaves it to readers to decide the real nature of heroism.

The main character is an ignorant little boy, but the illustrations show all he's missing! This would be a great conversation starter about looking outward and not inward and noticing your surroundings.
