Help little ones learn how to use their inside voices with this second story in the brand-new Wee Beasties series from New York Times bestselling author Ame Dyckman. Roary the Lion loves to roar. The only problem is, he roars WAY too loud. WAIT! Can you show Roary how to be quiet? Wee Beasties is a new board book series from New York Times bestselling author, Ame Dyckman, featuring silly animals doing the things they love just a little TOO much. In this second book in the series about Roary the Lion and his big outside roar, little ones will learn how to use their quiet inside voices.
Focused on helping kids keep their voice at an appropriate level, I really like that of the three different scenarios presented, the story helps teach Roary to be quiet enough by the time we make it to the sleepy baby! The illustrations tell part of the story in comic book form, which is a fun way to mix it without making the reader do too much work to explain the story to a toddler.
What a fun book to help teach your little ones about using quiet, inside voices when appropriate, particularly when you have a new baby sibling. :) There's a part in the book where it lets the reader take a turn at using an inside voice, but the first time I read it through I missed that it was letting the reader do so. I like that this story shows great positive reinforcement when they do a good job of using inside, quiet voices. Also, I love the illustrations!
Ame Dyckman is short, loud, mischievous, and often dresses like her book characters. (SEE?!) She’s also the award-winning, internationally-translated author of the fantastically illustrated (THANKS, illustrators!) picture books BOY + BOT, TEA PARTY RULES, the New York Times bestselling WOLFIE THE BUNNY, HORRIBLE BEAR!, YOU DON’T WANT A UNICORN! (on sale February 14, 2017!), and more picture books and board books in the works! Ame lives in central New Jersey with her family, ridiculously big-eared cat, book collection, closet full of hair dye colors, and of course, the characters from her stories. (For reals! She’s currently building a homemade swimming pool for the protagonist of her upcoming series, MISUNDERSTOOD SHARK—mostly so she can have her bathtub back.) Follow Ame on Twitter (@AmeDyckman), where she posts picture book reviews, goofy poetry, and pretty much everything that pops into her (usually blue-haired, sometimes purple-haired, occasionally green-haired) head.
