This book is a great classic tale. We all know the story. Most of us would eat the bread if offered to us but how many of us want to do the work? This could offer a great teaching moment to children to see the work is necessary and can be very rewarding in the end.
Paul Galdone (1907-1986) illustrated hundreds of children’s books, including the Basil of Baker Street series and the Anatole books, which received Caldecott Honors. He was posthumously awarded the 1996 Kerlan Award for his contribution to children’s literature.
