What Does Bookroo Think of This Book

A great graduation gift, yet the inspiring messaging is hindered by the accompanying child-like illustrations

In the vein of Oh the Places You’ll Go!, this inspiring book shares a myriad of hopes, dreams, and exciting experiences reminding young children of their potential, the amazing world that awaits them, and no ceiling to how high they can reach. Noteworthy events and activities fill the pages, from simple but appealing actions like “cakes to be gobbled,” “rainstorms to run in,” and “books to be read” to the more weighty accomplishments, like “peaks to be scaled” and “dreams that come true.” The mix of simple happenings accompanying the less frequent, more important milestones thoughtfully shows the beauty in the small, joy-invoking moments along with invigorating, larger measures of success. The child-like illustrations demonstrate the intentional gearing towards young minds with the scribbly, stick-figure-esque characters, yet perhaps hinder the classic potential when paired with the lovely, hopeful, and motivating messaging. Some clever wordage, such as “mending fences,” adds to the applicability of the book, but the text is slightly diminished by the interrupting flow due to the on-and-off rhyming. This, along with the simple illustrations, ultimately make this sweet book rank a touch below greatness, though still remaining a wonderful choice for graduation gifting and encouraging children to reach for the sky.
