“I noticed something about Finny’s own mind, which was such an opposite from mine. It wasn’t completely unleashed after all. I noticed that he did abide by certain rules, which he seemed to cast in the form of Commandments. ‘Never say you are five feet nine when you are five feet eight and a half’ was the first one I encountered.”
“We are commanded to study His Torah! We are commanded to sit in the light of the Presence! It is for this that we were created! . . . Not the world, but the people of Israel!”
“Though we are commanded to ‘wash ourselves’, to ‘cleanse ourselves from sins’, to ‘purge ourselves from all our iniquities’, yet to imagine that we can do these things by our own efforts is to trample on the cross and grace of Jesus Christ.”
“The most often repeated commandment in the Bible is ‘Do not fear.’ It’s in there over two hundred timesm . . . It means we are going to be afraid, and it means we shouldn’t let fear boss us around.”
