Foxes

Photographs by Larry Allan Walk into your backyard, or take a hike through the woods, and a pair of round fox eyes might be watching you from a nearby hiding place. These shy, unseen observers won’t harm or threaten you. Foxes are found almost everywhere in North America, even in cities. There are four North American species – red fox, common gray fox, arctic fox, and kit or swift fox. Cunning, shy, and seldom-seen, foxes are valuable contributors to life in North America. As skilled predators in the food chain, they help maintain the proper balance of nature. And, even though their pelts may bring high prices, foxes are far more valuable for the unique role they play in the natural world.
