Gloria Steinem is known as a leader of the feminist movement and a trailblazer who fights for equality for all people. This unofficial biography for young readers tells her story, from being a young girl with big dreams to her inspiring travels in India to the launch of Ms. magazine, which gave women a voice. Gloria’s message of believing in yourself and following your dreams will inspire a whole new generation.
First off, the illustrations in this book are gorgeous, bright, and unique. The story is a condensed bio about Gloria Steinem, who advocates for women's rights and equality. I'm all for a book about feminism and girl power, but I didn't love the tone at the beginning of the book that, while pointing out that Gloria's mom had to give up on some dreams to stay home and be a mother, seemed to also degrade that position of motherhood. The second half of the story, talking more about Gloria and her work advocating was inspiring.
The illustrations are beautiful and unique and the story is an interesting and valuable one, however, I felt like the writing itself wasn't particularly enjoyable or inspiring (like the illustrations)... it was just fine.
