Bookroo's summary

Jack loves visiting his dad, enjoying tacos and laughter. But when a noisy parrot named Jimmy arrives, Jack fears his dad might prefer the bird's company over his own. As Jack navigates feelings of jealousy and insecurity, he wonders if his dad's affection is shifting. Can a loud parrot really change their bond, or will it bring them closer in unexpected ways? This heartwarming tale explores the depths of parental love and the challenges of feeling replaced.

From the publisher

A funny, noisy parrot comes into Jack’s life and brings him closer to his dad in an unexpected and moving way in this gorgeous, emotionally resonant picture book from the creator of Florette. Jack loves staying at his dad’s house. They have tacos and milkshakes, and make each other laugh. But lately Jack wonders if his dad is lonely when he isn’t there. Then Jimmy arrives. Jimmy is loud and obnoxious, but Dad thinks he’s clever and funny. Jack does not think he’s clever or funny. And he’s starting to wonder if Dad likes Jimmy better than he likes Jack. This beautifully written and illustrated book about the unconditional love a parent has for a child is both heartwarming and reassuring.

4.5

The illustrations are so great—truly stunning and so full of emotion. This one definitely tugs at the heartstrings with the suggestion of a little boy going back and forth between his divorced parent's homes (although this is never explicitly stated) and his feelings of being second to the parrot (however untrue that may be).
