A boy's discovery in the Erie Canal leads to a colossal adventure.
When young Red McCarthy pulls an enormous polliwog from the Erie Canal, he unwittingly embarks on a giant adventure. As the creature grows, it becomes a force of nature, causing earthquakes and toppling trees. Yet, this giant frog, Joshua, also proves to be a surprising ally, capable of hauling barges down the canal. Can Red manage the chaos and harness the power of his extraordinary find?
Young Red McCarthy couldnï¿1/2t believe his eyes when he saw the size of the polliwog in his bucket as he pulled it out of the Erie Canal. Over time the polliwog grew, and soon Red had a giant adventure on his hands. Author Peggy Thomas was raised in western New York State and drew on her memories of hearing colorful tall tales from the 1800s while writing this story.
