She’s smart-alecky in class. Her handwriting is crummy, and her spelling’s even worse. She spent most of second and third grade going to the principal’s office. And Jackie expects fourth grade with Ms. Sugarman, who’s supposed to be the toughest teacher in school, to be her worst year yet. But amazingly enough, Ms. Sugarman actually likes Jackie. She encourages Jackie to write and to be her own person. For the first time in her life, Jackie is enjoying school. Then one day Ms. Sugarman announces something awful. She’ll be giving up teaching the fourth grade in order to be the principal of the entire school. Jackie can’t believe her ears. How could Ms. Sugarman abandon them? Jackie won’t let her. She’s going to come up with a plan to keep Ms. Sugarman teaching the fourth grade
