Inside the book

A peek between the covers

Bright new year lanterns we hang up outdoors wish us happy Spring Festival – good luck galore! Midnight arrives. The fireworks begin to chase away winter and let springtime in.
Our lush Nowruz table is covered in dishes, with bean sprouts and flowers and apples and fishes. We all crowd around it to welcome the spring, giving thanks for the fresh start that each new year brings.
Night shines like day when Diwali dusk falls and we toast the idea that good conquers all. We light tiny oil lamps – each one a small spark. When we gather, the light overpowers the dark.

6.5

A fabulous overview and introduction for littles to an array of holidays, with extra information and a pronunciation guide in the endpapers (but phonetic spellings on the pages throughout, too, is a huge win). The illustrations are beautiful and the few rhyming lines share a fun insight into each holiday.

5.5

Though the rhyming cadence could be improved, this is still a great introduction to celebrations around the world.
