From the publisher

McGee is a batter to be reckoned with; he wallops every ball that’s pitched to him. Last year, he took the Catbirds to number one. But the pitcher he beat practices through the whole long winter, and the championship is once again up for grabs, with bases loaded. It’s McGee’s turn to bat. The pitcher lets go a fast ball, but is it enough to strike out McGee?

A delightfully unexpected ended! :)

The text . . . is instead filled with vivid language that perfectly enhances the action. Sosa’s brightly hued illustrations are carefully constructed to allow the main characters to express their emotions in body language while keeping their physical appearances neutral.

The artwork was created digitally. I began the project by studying the movement of baseball players and filled many pages with sketches. This helped me get a better understanding of the game and certain pitches, and I then I moved on to doing rough sketches of each page on my computer. After discussing these sketches with the editor, I added colour and created the final images.
