With dialogue, thought bubbles, and colored-pencil drawings, Eve Bunting and Michael Rex have created an amusing story about staying healthy. When Carson takes his dog, Jack, to the vet for his annual check-up, he discovers that Jack is overweight. The vet gives Carson a list of things to do to help his dog lose weight. But as Jack diets, exercises, and sheds pounds, Carson snacks and gains weight. By the end of the book, Jack is thin and Carson is fat!
Eve Bunting has written more than two hundred books for young readers, including Pirate Boy (Holiday House), The Wedding, and Smoky Night (HMH Books for Young Readers), the winner of the 1995 Caldecott Medal. She lives in southern California.
Michael Rex has written and illustrated over 40 books for children, including the gruesomely hysterical, #1 New York Times bestseller Goodnight Goon. His popular sword-swinging Fangbone! Graphic novels have been turned into an animated show that runs on Disney XD in the U.S., and many other markets worldwide. He visits schools across the country and internationally to share his books with students of all ages, and he has a master’s degree in Arts Education. His work covers a wide range of styles, from the simple, goofy rhymes of Truck Duck, to the heavily illustrated, yuck-filled Icky Ricky chapter books. He lives in New Jersey with his wife, two boys, and a dog named Roxy.
