Stephen Huneck’s beloved black Labrador, Sally, has spawned a whole series of successful children’s books, as well as woodcut prints, mugs, T-shirts, stationery, sculpture, tote bags, and even rugs, but the genesis of this world was his now-classic first book, My Dog’s Brain. In it, Huneck illustrates the predicaments, pleasures, and appetites that make up a dog’s life, whether it’s sleeping on the couch, stealing a lick from an ice cream cone, or barking for no good reason. The new smaller trim, a paper-overboard binding, and eight pages of never-before-published artwork make this a perfect gift for Huneck fans and dog lovers who are curious as to just how their bestfriends really tick.
Stephen Huneck was the bestselling, award-winning author of seven previous Sally adventures and an internationally acclaimed painter, sculptor, and printmaker. His artwork is in the collections of the American Folk Art Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. He lived with his wife, Gwen, and their four dogs in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, near Dog Mountain, where his Dog Chapel is located. His own dog, Sally, was Huneck’s inspiration for these books. Huneck died in 2010.
