Silly animals star in this lively board book that introduces colors in a unique and catchy way. Have you ever seen a zebra wearing pink polka dots? Or a penguin with bright yellow boots? Brother and sister team Jonathan and Victoria Ying present these surprisingly colorful animals and more in this clever celebration of colors.
This is a delightfully spunky color book, with clever rhyming words and introducing one color per page on an otherwise black and white spread. It's fun to see many of these animals typically just drawn in black and white (... pandas, penguins, skunks, etc.) and a few others accented with a pop of color. Both the situations and the colors range from the ordinary to the fringe which keeps things interesting.
I love that this board book that focuses on colors has everything black and white except for the color you learn about on each page. While it talks a lot about colors, there are lots of different animals and there's also some counting. I also appreciated that the colors weren't just basic (red, orange, yellow), but lavender, aqua, and maroon. There's also a great overarching message of diversity and how everyone is unique.
