Bookroo's summary

In a Cajun twist on a classic tale, Petite Rouge and her cat TeJean face off against the cunning Gator Claude, who will stop at nothing to catch them. Disguised in duck attire, Claude's plans are thwarted by the duo's quick wit and a fiery Cajun hot sauce. Will Claude learn his lesson, or will Petite Rouge's cleverness save the day? This hilarious adventure, filled with rhyme and vibrant art, offers a fresh take on Little Red Riding Hood, set in the heart of the bayou. Discover a story where bravery and spice make all the difference.

From the publisher

Big Bad Gator Claude will do anything to have a taste of Petite Rouge…even if it means putting on a duck bill, flippers, and frilly underwear. He presents no match for the spunky heroine and her quick-thinking cat TeJean, though, as they use some strong Cajun hot sauce to teach Claude a lesson he will never forget! The combination of hilarious rhyme and exaggerated art creates a highly original retelling of the classic fairy tale. A pronunciation guide/glossary accompanies a tempting dialect that begs to be read aloud or acted out again and again. This is Little Red Riding Hood as she’s never been seen before: Cajun and ducky.

This is a very clever spin on Red Riding Hood, but the written dialect is a bit of a mouthful and quite taxing to read aloud, and makes this one I woudn't love to revisit frequently. The illustrations are incredible, however, and the grandmother hiding in the closet (rather than getting eaten) is a nice aspect of the story for sensitive readers.
