The New York Times bestselling Halloween picture book is now a board book! This rollicking, rhyming tale from master storyteller Julia Donaldson is the perfect Halloween read-aloud for the youngest listeners. A friendly witch, hungry dragon, and muddy monster learn about friendship, and readers will delight in the surprising (and not too scary) ending.
I love this rhyming story about this sweet witch and the friends she makes. I think the illustrations are fun and like that it shows little snapshots of the story as it goes along. This book is especially great for Halloween, but I think it's one that could be read throughout the year. :)
This might seem like a Halloween book but its message is a good one year round. The rhyming text is consistent and clever and the colorful and humorous illustrations are sure to delight. The generous witch earns some loyalty from her new-found friends who return the favor in an unexpected way leading to a clever turn of events at the end. It is long for young listeners, but worth the time if they have the attention span for a longer read.
Julia Donaldson is the bestselling author of many books for children, including One Ted Falls Out of Bed, The Gruffalo, and The Giants and the Joneses. She splits her time between England and Scotland with her family.
Julia Donaldson was the U.K. Children’s Laureate for 2011-2013. She and Axel Scheffler are the award-winning, bestselling team who created The Gruffalo, which was made into an Oscar-nominated short film. They both live in the United Kingdom.
