Judi Barrett's three imaginative stories begin with food falling from the sky in Chewandswallow, then revisit the town and carry its deliciously impossible weather all the way to Mars.

Read the three original stories in publication order: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Pickles to Pittsburgh, and Planet of the Pies. The later books refer back to Chewandswallow, so beginning with the classic makes their settings and family storytelling easier to follow.
Flint Saves the Day is based on the 2009 animated movie and uses the film's characters rather than continuing Judi Barrett's picture-book storyline. It is shown separately as an optional tie-in.

The first book shifts from a cozy bedtime tale to disaster as giant food storms damage the town and force residents to leave. No one dies or is graphically hurt, but floods, evacuation, and oversized food can create lively suspense.
The stories reward close looking and absurd problem-solving while also opening conversations about weather, community response, food waste, and generosity. The movie tie-in has a faster, more action-driven tone than the original books.
