How to Read the Heartstopper Books

Read Volumes 1–6 in order. Nick and Charlie's relationship, friendships, family lives, and Charlie's mental-health recovery develop continuously, and the final volume closes the story as Nick prepares for college.

The yearbook, coloring book, TV edition, and special hardbacks are optional products or alternate editions, not additional story volumes.

What Parents Should Know

This is a warm, affirming teen romance with LGBTQ+ characters, supportive friendships, and caring adults. It also includes coming out, homophobia, bullying, kissing, and later sexual references, so its emotional and relationship content is aimed at teens rather than young elementary readers.

Mental health becomes a major part of the story. The books discuss anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, treatment, and recovery with care but at meaningful length. A child with personal experience of those topics may appreciate a parent knowing they are coming.
