How to Read the Pippi Longstocking Books
Read the classic trilogy in publication order: Pippi Longstocking, Pippi Goes Aboard, and Pippi in the South Seas. Individual episodes often stand alone, but Tommy and Annika's friendship with Pippi and the questions surrounding her traveling father carry through the three books.
Pippi on the Run is a later picture-book story based on the 1970 film screenplay. It is an optional related adventure, not a fourth novel in the original trilogy.

What Parents Should Know
Pippi lives without day-to-day adult supervision, tells tall tales, resists school and police, and attempts risky feats that work because of her impossible strength. The danger and physical comedy are cartoonish, but children may need help separating Pippi's fantasy freedom from safe real-life choices.
The books also come from a different era. Older editions—especially the South Seas story—can contain colonial ideas, stereotypes, and language that many families will find dated or offensive.
