How to Read the Reckoners Books

Read Steelheart, Firefight, and Calamity in numbered order. Penguin Random House lists these as the three main novels and identifies Calamity as the final book.

Mitosis is a short book 1.5 story set after Steelheart and before Firefight. It adds one more Newcago mission but is optional. Lux is an audio-exclusive novel in the same world; because it was released as audio rather than a print or ebook edition, it is not included in this book-page count.

For parents

What Parents Should Know

These fast dystopian adventures include frequent gunfire, explosions, superpowered attacks, executions, injuries, and major character deaths. The opening is driven by the murder of the hero's father, and later books add grief, betrayal, frightening transformations, authoritarian rule, and mass-casualty threats. The banter and exaggerated powers lighten the tone, but the violence is persistent rather than occasional.
