Read the five books in Scholastic's numbered order, from Gregor the Overlander through Gregor and the Code of Claw. Each quest has its own prophecy, but alliances, family secrets, political conflicts, and the consequences of earlier battles carry directly into the next book.
The series is one completed five-part story with no official companion or adaptation line to insert. Repackaged editions and the five-book boxed set contain the same novels and should not be counted separately.

This is a war story for middle-grade readers. It includes combat, blood, poison and disease, predatory creatures, imprisonment, serious injuries, and the deaths of human and animal characters—including characters children may care about. Suzanne Collins has said the fantasy species let the violence skew younger than The Hunger Games, but she also confirms that human characters die.
Gregor carries adult-sized responsibility while worrying about his missing father, caring for his toddler sister, and questioning whether prophecy makes violence inevitable. Loyalty crosses species and enemy lines, and the books examine prejudice, grief, trauma, and the cost of war more directly as the sequence progresses.
The prophecies and relationships form one continuous story, so there is a single reliable entry point.
