Christmas Day in the Morning
Ages 4–8 · 1955
Written by Nancy Robinson Masters · Illustrated by Debra H Warr
A farm girl dreads wearing a homemade costume when her family can't afford a store-bought one.
A cotton farmer's daughter dreams of a fairy princess costume from the catalog, but a dry year means there is no money to buy one. Her mother makes her a costume from a brown towel and cotton bolls instead, and she is sure she will be the only cotton bale among the princesses and pirates. With help from a caring teacher, she learns that being different can be something special.
