There are so many new children's books these days to be seduced by but it is hard to beat a classic like Eric Carle's Very Busy Spider. Signature illustrations incorporating hand-painted paper cutouts and masterful use of white space, barnyard animals to identify and sounds to make, and best of all, a great lesson about working until the job is done and the value of rest after a busy day.

This one is a classic that is deserving of its status. While it's a simple story showcasing one spider's diligence in creating her web despite a myriad of invitations from animals to do other things, it's also great for reinforcing other animal noises and favorite activities, and of course, Eric Carle's signature illustrations are delightful.

As is to be expected from Eric Carle's books, this book has illustrations that are bold, inventive, and engaging for all ages. The story is simple and repetitive--a perfect formula for toddlers.
