The Wizard of Oz

L. Frank Baum (1856–1919) was an American storyteller best known for creating the magical Land of Oz. He worked in many creative fields—including theater, journalism, and retail—before turning to children’s books. His lively imagination and playful sense of wonder led him to write stories filled with unusual characters, adventure, and heart. Baum’s tales, especially The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, have delighted generations of readers and helped shape the world of modern fantasy for children.

Carly Gledhill is a children’s book illustrator/author living and working in Stockport, U.K. She has worked as a print designer for studios and retailers and completed an MA in children’s book illustration. She got her first book deal with Orchard Books, writing and Illustrating Monty and Sylvester: A Tale of Everyday Superheroes (2018). Since then she has worked on her second title for Orchard and illustrated for publishers and clients including Little Tiger Press, Quarto, and Redbird Publishing.
