Summary: Gitchee Manitou sends Nanabush the Giant Hare to the new north country to name the first animals and give them their markings. But Nanabush, a trickster, would rather play. When Ahmik the Giant Beaver lures him into a chase across the new land and water, their game etches out islands, ponds and lakes. A legend of how Wisconsin, 'place of the beaver,' came to be.
