There are lots of books that follow this same story...child has lost their mom, and someone is (often very unsuccessfully) helping them to find her. I was feeling pretty meh about this one (I don't love the illustrations) when I got near the end where it had a moment of beautiful cleverness (I won't spoil it!) that definitely bumped up my opinion of this book.
