“You are cordially invited to the BIGGEST, BESTEST, HATTIEST party of all time!” Come join the fun—but only if you have a hat. AND you know the entry rules. Unfortunately, there seems to be a surprising number of those, as a young boy discovers. Will he—and the cool collection of animals he befriends along the way—ever get in? Gloriously illustrated, the art contains loads of details that serve as clues to the satisfying surprise ending. Kids will read this thoroughly hilarious cumulative picture book again and again!
As increasingly ridiculous and ludicrous situations unfold based on one seemingly innocuous directive in a party invitation (You must bring a hat!) the story gets increasingly humorous and enjoyable. Good illustrations and fun premise!
This book is hilarious, it just keeps going and getting crazier until it ends on a funny note. :) Clever, and cute illustrations!
Simon was born in Chichester in 1988 and has lived there ever since, although he occasionally leaves to buy milk. After gaining a 1st class degree in History at Exeter University, he immediately put his skills to good use working as a barman at a local pub. He soon grew tired of the owner calling him Andy, and so, naturally, decided to become a primary school teacher. Teaching rekindled his love of children’s literature, particularly picture books, so much so that he had a go at writing his own. Deciding he was better at writing stories for children than he would ever be at teaching them, he made a swift exit from education to live the cliché of the writer who works in a bar. He hopes that one day he’ll be able to give up writing stories and become a barman full-time. Simon’s first picture books will be published by Simon & Schuster Children’s Books. YOU MUST BRING A HAT will be published on 30 June 2016, and I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO CALL MY CAT will be published in January 2017. (Bio via http://simon-philip.com)
