The challenge
“We know the importance of daily reading and what an impact it can have on student success and confidence.”
That knowledge led Assistant Principal Cassi Radich on a search to find a solution that would incentivize and support student reading at SLAM! Nevada, a K–12 school with a unique focus on sports leadership and management.
Independent reading has been declining for decades among K–12 students. Only 14% of middle grade students read for fun almost every day, down almost 50% since 2012.
Cassi knew that the service they were looking for needed to fit within the school’s budget, “We reviewed multiple companies and after speaking with Bookroo we knew they would be the best fit.”
The solution: Bookroo Classroom
SLAM! NV initially subscribed to Bookroo Classroom, a suite of tools to track, motivate, and encourage independent reading, including through
- Reading challenges
- Book assessments
- Fundraising book fairs, and
- Title exploration and recommendation tools
Bookroo Book Club subscriptions
After seeing positive results with the software tools, SLAM! NV was looking for a way to get physical books to its students. That’s when the school used grant money to sign students up for Bookroo’s award-winning book clubs. Cassi says,
“The partnership just fit so we reached out to Bookroo and expanded to using their book club subscriptions as well. The subscription boxes are wonderful. The books are hardcover, gorgeous, high-quality, and the stories are a good blend of books or characters we have encountered and books that are new to us but we quickly fall in love with.”
“Reading every day is such a simple way to have a profound impact on a child’s education and Bookroo is helping us get that message out to our community.”
