From the legendary Dolly Parton comes a story about her god-dog and Instagram personality, Billy the Kid, who is hoping to make it big as a country music star in Nashville, Tennessee. French bulldog Billy the Kid was born with an ear for music. And not just any music. He loves barking to the beat of country music! So Billy sets out to Nashville to sing his heart out. But when he meets some big bullies at the Battle of the Bow-wows, Billy worries he’s barking up the wrong tree. He’ll need his favorite songs (“Jowlene” and “I Will Pawlways Love You,” of course), a group of scrappy new friends, and his favorite country music star to regain self-confidence and be the star he always knew he could be. Written by Dolly Parton with Erica S. Perl and illustrated by MacKenzie Haley, this is a delightful picture book about standing up to people (and dogs) who put you down and finding the drive to achieve your dreams.
Dolly Parton is an internationally renowned superstar who has contributed timeless classics to the world of music entertainment, including “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and the mega-hit “I Will Always Love You.” She has garnered 7 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards, 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, 3 American Music Awards and is one of only five female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award. She has written over 3,000 songs and authored 4 books, including the inspirational Dream More (Putnam) and the children’s book, I Am A Rainbow (Penguin).
Erica S. Perl is an established picture book author (Chicken Butt!) making her debut as a young adult novelist with Vintage Veronica. The story behind Vintage Veronica began at The Garment District, the Boston area’s legendary vintage clothing store (where, P.S., Erica will be reading and signing Vintage Veronica on March 27, 2010 at 1 pm!). Erica started taking notes and drawing inspiration from the unique characters and one-of-a-kind clothing articles she discovered there. Her research grew into a short story about a girl named Veronica, which then evolved to become a book.
MacKenzie Haley is an illustrator, runner, and cat whisperer who currently resides in Louisville, KY. She has completed two full marathons (slowly), fostered about twelve cats (not at the same time), and received her BFA in illustration from the University of Dayton.
